Djokovic finishes No. 1 for second year 2012

After winning the Australian Open at the beginning of the year 2012, Djokovic had started his winning spree against Nicolas Mahut, Santiago Giraldo and Paolo Lorenzi, along with L Hewitt. In the quarterfinals David Fedrer got defeated in three sets. Andy Murray got defeated in the semifinals. But the record breaking match was the final against Rafeal Nadal, in which Djokovic won in five sets to become the champion. The final match between Nadal and Djokovic was played for nearly 5 hours and 53 minutes.  It is considered to be the longest final in the history of Open Era of Grand Slam of tennis matches. Also it became the longest match ever played in the Australian Open by surpassing the previous record of 5 hour 14 minutes fight between Nadal and Fernando Verdasco.

In the Indian Wells at California, Djokovic was defeated by John Isner in the semifinals but Djokovic defended his title while playing at Miami. There were two consecutive defeats at the hands of Nadal which allowed Nadal to make a record of eight successive titles at Monte Carlo. Again at Rome Nadal won against Djokovic in the Rome Masters in 2012.

The Frech Open saw Novak Djokovic, as champion in 2012 when he defeated Rger Federer in the finals. Thus Djokovic became the first person after Rod Laver who did the similar feat in 1969, to win all the major Grand Slam Titles at the same time.

Again Djokovic fought unsuccessfully against Roger Federer and lost in the semifinals of Wimbledon in four sets.  In the London Olympics, Novak Djokovic was considered to be the best sportsman to hold the Serbian flag which was a major personal achievement for Djokovic. In London Olympics he was defeated in few matches in direct sets and could not defend his bronze medal.

In the US Open, Djokovic, reached to the finals of the tournament third time successively, he defeated Roger Federer in the semi final but got defeated in the finals by Andy Murray. Djokovic defended his Chinese title at China Open by inflicting defeat on Tsonga in three straight sets. He also won the Shanghai Masters where he defeated Andy Murray in the final. Djokovic and became the world no 1 by regaining his top ranking.

In November 2012, Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in the finals of 2012 ATP World Tour Finals. Because of his championships in major tournaments and his ability to defend the major titles throughout the year, Novak Djokovic was named as ITF Champion in the category of men’s single, by the International Tennis Federation for the year 2012.
